Traditional homeschooling is what most people think of when they think of school at home. A typical scene would be a homeschool mom sitting with her children at the kitchen table or their desks working on their textbooks. Traditional homeschooling is also known as school-at-home, and is the method of homeschooling which most closely resembles the public or private school classroom. Many homeschoolers begin their homeschooling journey using the school-at-home method. The lesson plans are clearly laid out and are easy to follow. Many programs are available with a tutoring service which allows a licensed teacher to grade the work sent in and monitor the student's progress. As families become more experienced teaching their children, they commonly begin to use other methods of homeschooling, or combining several methods to best suit their family. Some companies which offer programs for traditional style homeschooling are: A Beka, Bob Jones, ACE and Alpha Omega. |
